If he just does the standard install I wouldn't bother ... just tip him if he goes above & beyond whats to exist expected.
  • #8
I'd offering him a drink, at most, unless he has to practice some hardcore wiring (installing wires through the wall, for example).

I wouldn't, they are doing their job- not providing y'all with something other than what they go paid to practise.

They're paid based on the assumption that they dont get tips, and so no, i dont tip them

Steven: I have this friend and he gave his cable guy $50 and then he got all the motion-picture show channels for free. You e'er hear of anything similar that?
  • #13
They don't take tips. I told the cable guy he could keep the pen I lent him once, but he said "No, it could be considered a tip".

Why would you tip a person that is already making 15 - 20 per 60 minutes?

Unless he goes out of his manner to practice something for you, I wouldn't retrieve so. If information technology's a standard installation, he'll be happy enough with his regular pay. If it'due south a service call and he's there for a long fourth dimension, you might want to consider a tip. If he helps you out with your audio system or something similar, something he didn't HAVE to do. Yeah you lot should probably consider a tip.

Peculiarly Waitresses and Pizza Delivery folks.

Personally, I will tip just almost anyone if: they go above & across what is required, they are exceptionally efficient at what they exercise, or if the do an extra skillful job.

<-- was a Southern Manhattan NYC Time Warner Cablevision tech for 5 years

Before 9/11 I used to average ~100/day in tips, after 9/11, less than that in a week. I miss those days. Yes, it's nice to tip a cable guy, only it isn't necessary. I used to detest when I went the actress mile for some people and didn't go a unmarried penny though. Many people will act similar they are gonna tip you lot, and and then stiff you...lol

How does that differ from waiters?

Funny. Simply y'all know waiters aren't paid solely by the eating place to do what they do. About of their income comes from tips.
